Compensation/ClassificationClassification encompasses the assignment of specific job classification specifications and, in some faculty cases, administrative codes to positions and the documentation of position descriptions.Roles and Responsibilities - The classification of positions and documentation of position descriptions involves multiple parties and includes various steps. Click here for a description of the roles within this process. Job Families - Job classifications have been grouped into job families. The job classifications grouped into a job family all have the same nature of work, but require different levels of skill, effort, and responsibility. Grouping positions into job families allows employees to recognize possible career paths and encourages both upward and horizontal mobility. Click here for a list of the twelve job families. Job Classification Specifications - Classification of positions within the University assigns specific job codes or job classification for all staff (USPS / A&P) and faculty positions. A specification for each job code or job classification has been developed to document the job duties, responsibilities and competencies essential to the classification. Click here for official job classification specifications. Working Titles - Due to the broad range of jobs contained within the classification system and the generic nature of the classification titles, a department may wish to designate a working title for a position. A working title is a descriptive and informative designation that reflects the nature of the work being performed in a designated position or similar positions. Click here for guidelines in selecting a working title for a position. |
